Valleivogels 1 - Odysseus '91 1

Welcome back to Match of the Day, with still to come: Odysseus descended from their hill to confront Valleivogels at De Bree-West. For this I leave you in the hands of John Motson and who else but Andy Gray.

Yes, thank you Gary and welcome at the Bree-West for this thrilling encounter between Valleivogels and newly promoted  Odysseus. Valleivogels in the expected first eleven and Odysseus starting with Heuvelink on goal, Austrian international Hendriks on the right, in the center with Dutch delights Kuiper and Dolman and on the left ‘Doc’ Molenaar. The creative midfield consisting of French technician Ruud Bourgondy and certainties Dresen and van de Berg.  Hanging on the left we find Janssen who finds himself in the interest of Augsburg and up front Rogers and Verwey will be in charge of scoring.

We are 20 minutes into the game and Odysseus find themselves struggeling in their first game. The passing is at times appalling and they seem not to be able to really break through the strong defensive line of Valleivogels. One change has been noted when Verwey had a good break through on the right, but when he passed the goalkeeper he only saw his shot deflecting off the upright. Rumours have it that Rayo Vallecano are going back to the negotiating table for him this winter after Rayo backed down on the initial transfer fee Odysseus wanted for its winger.  Although Valleivogels have more possession of the ball, they seem unable to create anything good either.

So we are close to half time now and not much has changed since the last 25 minutes and sadly the quality of the game has not improved. Manager Van der Grift of Odysseus will probably pin point a thing or two during half time.

We are into the second half and it seems as if the game is going to bring a bit more excitement to the fans. Also it has become clear that a representative of British outfit Rushden & Diamonds has been spotted in the stands. Allegedly they have an interest in signing Jamaican star player Chris Rogers.

Valleivogels have had a couple of chances but Austrian multifunctional  Hendriks turned himself into a hero by miraculously saving a cross from the goal mouth. Van den Berg made sure the scoreline stayed flat by heading a ball from the line as well.

In the end one can conclude that 0-0 might be a just score, although I couldn’t be called unfair if Valleivogels snagged the three points today.
